The Advanced Prototyping Center @ LACI
I worked as the workshop assistant at the APC, helping to research and set up new digital fabrication machines.
Specifically, I worked on setting up and writing documentation for the Faro 3D scan arm and the tabletop CNC router. I also researched alternative 3D-printing filaments to stock. Working there gave me the opportunity to be around bunch of talented engineers and to experience the LACI from the inside.
The APC was a part of the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator, and the 40+ incubated cleantech companies, as well as outside entrepreneurs, would use the APC to prototype and build their products. The APC was only a few months old, so I got the chance to see the process of designing and setting up a state-of-the-art fabrication environment. Part of this process included touring other workshops in the LA area to see how they were designed and how they functioned.
