Fundación Altiplano
I worked as a researcher and designer at Fundación Altiplano, a heritage conservation foundation in the north of Chile.
While working there, I was in charge of the initial research and conceptual design for their manual on sustainable conservation. We designed this book in tandem with the new school for sustainable conservation that they were creating in Arica. Both the school and the manual were an attempt to codify the unique approach to architecture and preservation that they had pioneered, which used a holistic approach that is created and carried out by the community.
My job included conducting field interviews and working with architects, sociologists, and art historians to decide the form and content of the book. I was also a part of the various meetings that took place to redefine the mission of Fundación Altiplano and determine the structure of the school.
In addition, I helped in various other capacities at the foundation:
I worked with the indigenous building masters in the restoration of stone and adobe structures throughout the highlands.
I assisted with production for their indigenous arts festival Arica Barroca, and reimagined the logo for one of the foundation’s projects
I accompanied the sociologists and architects of the foundation to various community meetings and ceremonies
